The Property Tax Division of the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department will conduct a property auction at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in the County Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Courthouse at 251 W. Amador Ave., in Las Cruces.
The Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office is working with the state to coordinate the upcoming auction.
On the auction block will be 40 Doña Ana County properties whose taxes were delinquent for a period of three or more years prior to July of 2005. Although Doña Ana County provides a site for the auction, all penalty and interest proceeds go to the state. A list of properties to be auctioned, with descriptions and maps, will be available beginning March 1, 2006, at which time the Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office can assist interested parties with their research.
According to state statute, all properties identified for sale require a minimum bid equal to the amount of delinquent taxes, plus accrued penalties and interest. Payment in full is required at the conclusion of the auction. Acceptable payment methods include money order, cash, certified check and cashiers check. Personal checks or business checks will be accepted if they are accompanied by a banks letter of credit guaranteeing sufficient funds to cover the final total sale price.
The state places restrictions on access to auctioned properties both before and after the sale. To research these and other stipulations of the auction process, visit the states website at <http://www.state.nm.us/tax/ptd/aucterms.htm>.
